South Brunswick School District Announces "Homework Free Holidays"
Last year, the South Brunswick School District began a study of current homework practices.  Data was gathered, (qualitative and quantitative), best approaches were studied, and a set of recommendations were set forth.

In year two, our Homework Goal has moved from study to action with an eye on tending to the whole child. One such action is to provide students with three district-wide, homework-free periods of time during the 2016-2017 school year.  This homework-free schedule will provide students with a scarce commodity-- unencumbered lengths of time to enjoy family and friends, pursue personal interests, spend time outside, play, read, rest, and restore.

Below is the list of homework-free holidays for this school year:
  • Fall: November 23-27, 2016 (Thanksgiving Holiday) - No assignments due or tests given on the day of return, November 28.
  • Winter: December 23, 2016 – January 2, 2017 (Winter Break) - No assignments or long-range projects due or tests given before January 5.
  • Spring: April 10 – April 17, 2017 (Spring Break) - No assignments or long-term projects due or tests given before April 20.
Click here for a detailed memo that was distributed to all staff earlier this week.  It outlines other actions that we have taken for this year, as well as future direction.

We thank our faculty and families for partnering in the promotion of balance and wellness for our students.
